  • Rocky Mountain goat

    Oreamnos americanus

    Oreamnos, comes from the greek oreos, for mountain, and amnos for lamb. Characteristic long white coat all over the body and legs. Conical section horns, they curve more in males than in females.

    They live in the U.S. states of Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. And in the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, the Northwest Territories and the Yukon Territories.

    Ovis canadensis canadensis

    Asheep with dark brown pelage, with a large white rump patch and white on the back of the legs and muzzle.

    The horns are massive, they can form a full circle and more, with the ends diverging outwards if not broomed, which is usual.

    They live along the Rocky Mountains, in the provinces of British Columbia and Alberta in Canada, and in the states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming in the United States.

  • Desert bighorn

    Ovis canadensis nelsoni

    Smaller than those of the Rockies, they have a lighter coat and a smaller rump patch. Massive horns with thick, amber-colored bases diverge somewhat at the tips that are usually broomed.

    Its distribution area is in the United States, the states of Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Texas. In Mexico, Baja California North and South, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo Leon and Sonora.

  • Dall sheep

    Ovis dalli dalli

    The Dall is the only white sheep in the world. Light yellowish horns may be darker depending on the area they come from. They can describe a more or less closed circle and the tips diverge in a greater or lesser eversion, usually broomed.

    It is located in the state of Alaska in the United States and the provinces of British Columbia, the Yukon Territories and the Northwest Territories in Canada.

  • Stone sheep

    Ovis dalli stonei

    They have many variations in colour, but all have black tails, white muzzle with rump patch and ivory-coloured bellies. They range from light grey to dark graphite.

    The horns tend to have thicker bases than those of the Dall family, with more divergent tips and generally less blunt than those of the Dall family.

    They live in Canada in the provinces of British Columbia and the Yukon Territories.

  • Aoudad introduced in Texas

    Ammotragus lervia

    The aoudad or barbary sheep is a species that is between sheep and goat, Ammotragus, that derives from the greek ammo (sand) and tragos (goat). Straw colour. They do not have a beard like goats, but have a highly developed mane from the throat to the chest and upper front legs. The horns are more similar to those of the tur or barhal, than to those of the goats.

    Introduced in Davis Mountains, Texas.

    It is the southernmost deer in the world, with a greyish meadow colour and forked horns with 4 or more points.

    They live in the Andean Patagonian mountain range, in Argentina and Chile.

  • Taruca

    Hippocamelus antisensis

    Smaller than the South Huemul, more greyish in colour. With 4-pointed horns.

    It lives in Peru, the far north of Chile, western Bolivia, and northwestern Argentina. At altitudes ranging from 1.800 to 5.500 meters above sea level.
